People
who prone to obesity or suffering from weight problems do go on to resort to
weight loss surgery. In recent times it has gone on to become a popular option
when methods in the form of diet, supplementation or exercise failed to provide
the desired results. What a failure of these methods indicates is that an
individual has failed to lose weight or they have gone on to gain it back as
well. If the problems of excess weight are not dealt with it could pose
problems such heart disease, cancer or strokes. Hypertension and diabetes is
just waiting to happen as well.
In
case if a patient finds it difficult to cope up with the pre surgery work, then
the doctor is not going to opt for the surgery. In order to be a candidate for
the surgery you would need to be morbid obese and this means for a man you need
to be overweight by 100 pounds and in case of women it is 80 pounds. There are
some other factors that a surgeon is going to give lot of consideration as well.
- Age- this form of surgery could be performed on any one who is in the age group of 18 to 60 years
- Weight-if your weight is twice than that of your normal body weight then you are a candidate for this surgery
- Commitment- there is a commitment on the part of the client to make necessary changes in their lifestyle along with their habits.
- History- there is a history of losing weight and then gaining it back and this is after all the traditional methods of weight loss surgery has failed to really take off.
- Addictions- You should not be addictive to any form of substance as it may have serious issues in terms of recovery.
The
whole concept of weight loss surgery began emerged as a result of operations
where severe ulcers or cancer went on to remove large portions of your stomach
or the small intestine. As the patients who were part of the surgery went on to
lose weight, the doctors gave a lot of consideration with regards to obesity.
In fact the first operation that was performed in relation to obesity was an
intestinal bypass. The whole idea behind this was the patient could consume
large amount of food, where the process of digestion or it could pass so fast
that it virtually makes it difficult to absorb any calories. What happened was
that the side effects proved out to be very fatal. This intestinal bypass operation
is no longer being used in modern times. Surgeons in the modern times go on to
work on the concept of weight loss surgery by restricting the amount
of food that the stomach could hold. The major concept behind this process is
restriction on the food consumed.
Bariatric surgery in India happens to be of the top draw
because of the quality of top surgeons found in this part of the world.
